South India
South India is a fascinating place. The South has a proud and pure history. It was never invaded by the Mogul so it has had less outside influences shaping it. There are a few places that foreigners have clearly made their mark (e.g. Pondicherry). The South also remains more devoutly religious (primarily Hindu) than North India as well.
Points of interest for westerns include:
- Chennai (formerly Madras) a hot, bustling city known for its traditions of classical Indian dance.
- Kerala a breath taking beautiful state on the south west coast. Backwater boating explorations, some of the world finest beaches not to mention excellent coffee make it a very desirable destination.
- Pondicherry a lovely french influenced town on the south east coast.
- Temples of a thousand varieties.
