Rajasthan

Rajasthan is by far the most popular place for westerners to visit in India and for good reason! It is located in Northern India, but it gets its own section in the guide due to its popularity.

Facts About Rajasthan
Rajasthan is the largest state in northwestern India. It borders Pakistan to the west and is about 280KM / 175 Miles (to Jaipur) from Delhi. The state capital is Jaipur. It contains the great Thar Desert in the west. It also contains one of the world's oldest mountain ranges (the Aravalli Range) home to the hill station, Mount Abu and the Dilwara Temples. Rajasthan has two tiger reserves (although the remaining tiger population is very small), Ranthambore and Sariska.

Jaipur also makes up the third part of the extremely tourist popular "Golden Triangle" (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur). Rajasthan is famous for quality handcrafts including textiles (silk, cotton and wool), carpets, metal work and semi-precious stones.

English is widely spoken as well as Hindi, Punjabi and mixtures of these and traditional Rajasthani languages.

Rajasthan is a dry desert state.
