Jaipur
Jaipur is one of North India's most popular tourist destinations. Often called the "pink city" due to the color of the buildings in the "old city". Jaipur has many interesting places for tourist to visit and enjoy. Shopping is also very good in Jaipur with rich trade in semi-precious stone, textiles, carpets and metal work.
Jaipur is a busy city and those new to it often feel a little overwhelmed, but yet far less so than Delhi or Indian's other major cities. The traffic in the old city is quite hectic and the newcomer will be amazed to see the cows lazily staring off into space, elephants parks along the road, goats and pigs grazing here and there - all in a mass of moving rickshaws, cars, buses, bikes and vegetable carts.
Arrival is not made easier by the large number of rickshaw-men and wanna be guides hustling for your business. After a long trip this can be an un welcoming experience BUT hang in there, it gets much better once you find your feet. To ease the arrival shock, book a hotel in advance and ask them to pick you up from your arrival point.
After you find your hotel and maybe your bed you will be happy to find many things to do in and around Jaipur. Read the sub-sections for some ideas.
My Experience: Jaipur has become one of my favorite places in India. When I first arrived through luck or however it is that things work in India I found a guide right away that I really liked. The price was "As you wish" and over the next several days he showed me some wonderful sites and introduced me to a few people who over the last few years have become good friends of mine.
